Sardis UMC Renovations:
As Rev. Chuck previously mentioned in his July 27, 2018 email newsletter, the church Trustees approved some church renovations. These renovations include redoing the front door, new front steps, and a ramp at the front of the church. Again, none of these renovations will detract from the beautiful, historic façade that makes Sardis unique. This work will begin mid-September and will take a few weeks to complete. We will provide updates as often as possible. If you have any questions regarding this work, please see one of the Trustees. Below is a sketch from Stewart Aiken that will give us an idea of what we can look forward to.

Community Outreach - BCM New Sock and New & Gentle Used Coats Drive!
Hearing the Cry of the Needy: For some years, Sardis UMC has contributed money and food to Buckhead Christian Ministry. Recently, the Sardis Church Council agreed to expand our involvement with BCM by helping some of their individual clients.
Our first opportunity to contribute in this new way came we were able to assist one mother of two small children. We helped her obtain a computer and paid for internet access to help her find employment.
The second client is a woman with three young children who fled an abusive situation and was homeless when she approached BCM. She now has a job and day care for the children, and she will be moving into a BCM Transitional Housing apartment on Sept. 1st. She had no household goods at all, so we were able to provide her with such items as sleeping bags, dishes, towels, pots and pans, etc. She will eventually be able to get furniture through the Furniture Bank. We will also be helping her with her apartment and utilities deposits.
With each client, we follow the direction of their case workers, who are familiar with the details of each situation and can guide us so that our contributions will do the most good.
Your generous support of Sardis' budget makes this local mission possible. Please also keep our BCM clients in your prayers.
In September, in place of our usual food drive we will be collecting new socks and new and gently used jackets and coats (any size) for BCM. Please place your contributions in the basket in the Narthex.
