United Methodist Women

"The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church."

The Sardis UMW unit meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month during the school year. We meet at 6:00PM, usually at a member's home. A light supper is provided and followed by a Bible study. You do not need to be a member of Sardis UMC to attend our circle meetings...all are welcome. To learn more about the Sardis United Methodist Women please contact Pam Aiken at ptaiken@gmail.com.

The Sardis UMW provides financial support to:

  • Murphy-Harpst Children's Centers, Cedartown, GA (With a tradition that dates back to 1914, Murphy-Harpst is a behavioral healthcare organization offering a continuum of services designed to meet the needs of children and youth with emotional and/or behavioral problems.)
  • United Methodist Children's Home, Decatur, GA (the organization provides spiritual and healing services to abused children, troubled teens and struggling families. The organization provides family counseling, family housing, financial aid and parenting classes. The property is a vast campus of chapels, housing, meeting spaces and recreational facilities.
  • Buckhead Christian Ministry, Atlanta, GA (a faith-based, non-profit organization that provides emergency assistance to individuals and families of all backgrounds and faiths, treating everyone with dignity and compassion. BCM is driven by a dual mission to serve those in need and provide opportunities for members of the community to be involved in service.)
  • Global Health Action (The mission of Global Health Action is to improve the health of individuals and communities around the globe through education, training, and practical programs in leadership, management, and health promotion.)
  • FINCA (micro-loans to women in developing countries)
  • The UMW also purchases supplies for the Sardis kitchen and setup/cleanup for the monthly Sardis fellowship dinner. With contributions from the congregation the UMW purchases Easter lilies and poinsettias and place them in the church during the holidays.

In addition to the above financial support the UMW participates in Operation Christmas Child by filling shoeboxes with with a variety of gifts such as toys, school supplies, and hygiene items for children ages 2 to 15. The boxes go to children around the world who are suffering because of war, natural disaster, poverty, illness, or neglect. Last year we sent over 60 boxes.
